Using Technology to Help Encourage Educational Content Processing

Alex Ramadanis, who has been with Queens College as an adjunct professor since 2012, has had many roles as an educator, including teacher, coach, athletic director, and testing coordinator. Teachers like Alex Ramadanis should always be looking for new ways to use technology effectively in the classroom.
While technology can be an effective tool for introducing content, technology can also help students process content. For example, in mathematics, virtual manipulatives can be used to show the area and perimeter of an object in more complex ways. Meanwhile, online mind maps used for class brainstorming sessions can be created in a clear, detailed manner, thereby making them more effective than their written counterparts. Furthermore, students can work on activities in groups, so the classroom doesn’t require as many stations as there are students present.
Technology can also be used to help students who finish their work early continue to engage with the material and, in doing so, take their understanding to the next level. Some workstations may even include videos, websites, and educational games related to the topic, as to ensure that students who finish their assignments early remain engaged.
