Veteran academic Alex Ramadanis has taught within the City University of New York (CUNY) higher education system for more than 5 years. After earning advanced degrees in school administration and special education, Alex Ramadanis joined Queens College as an adjunct professor. The college is implementing a stigma-free food distribution programs for students.

In November 2018, Queens College opened the Knights Table Food Pantry as part of the No Student Goes Hungry initiative launched by New York Governor Andrew Cuomo the previous summer.

The Knights Table is stocked with donations of canned goods and ready-made meals from student organizations, faculty, and staff. Eligible students can access the pantry Monday to Thursday from the hours of 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 to 7 p.m. The pantry closes an hour early at 1 p.m. on Fridays.

According to a study from 2016, up to a quarter of college students at New York state colleges do not have reliable access to food. From the 2018 fall semester, all state universities are required to open food distribution programs, the first state-wide pantry program dedicated to college students in country.
